It was hot.

That was the main thing Pan had learned during her brief induction into this world. She always thought that Greece was hot, especially in summer, but this... this was something else. She was wearing a short, white, tunic-styled dress, leaving her suit of armour back in the ship - perhaps stupidly favouring comfort over protection. She still had her weapons, and knew enough about fighting that she could hopefully protect herself well enough to get away. Or get kidnapped. Whatever.

Trudging through the desert, a scowl was plastered across the Olympian's face. A man had told her of a cave hidden in the desert, filled with jewels and treasures and things of magic. As an avid, up-and-coming adventurer, Pan had revelled in the information and immediately set out to find the tiger-head shaped entrance to this so-called 'cave of wonders'. But it wasn't there. She did exactly as he said, went in a straight line from the city until she came across a bent over desert tree, and then turned to the left. But nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Her mission had quickly transformed from finding a hidden cave to finding the man who had told her about the hidden cave, so she could 'teach him a lesson'. It wasn't that Pan was violent, not normally, but the combination of being lied to and this extreme heat had gone to her head... she was angry.

Re-entering the city, the girl slipped her way through the crowded bazaar, the smell of sweat and animals ripe within the air. Overhead, on the rooftops, were a number of guards which she found particularly perplexing. Why were there guards on the roof?

Her question was quickly answered, as she watched a young boy swipe a piece of fruit from a nearby stall, before scrambling up the side of one building and hopping to the next... right into the arms of the waiting guard. Apparently the wide-eyed youth hadn't seen the law-enforcer before he decided upon his escape route, and was quickly escorted out of the girl's view. Pan frowned, momentarily distracted from her seething anger. What kind of kid stole a piece of fruit, unless they really needed it? Come to think of it, she had seen countless homeless people - especially children - in her brief time here. There had been poverty in Olympus, sure, but certainly not of this magnitude... were all the other worlds like this? She quickly sifted through her memories of the few she had visited, Traverse Town didn't seem to have the same problem... so what was wrong with this place?

She scanned the market, suddenly making eye contact with the shifty-looking attendant who had sent her on her fool's errand in the first place.

"HEY!" She called, her voice perforating across the market square, but it was in vain. The man had already stashed his wares in a big trunk, disappearing into a shadowy alleyway. Pan raced across the bazaar as quickly as she could, but the sheer volume of the people made it a momentous task and by the time she reached his stall, he was well and truly gone.

"Asshole," she whispered to herself, leaning up against his now empty stall and considering what her next move should be. She could wait here for him to come back, but that was irrational. What was she gonna do? Yell at him and then move on? There was no point, regardless of how angry she might've been, it wasn't like he hurt her in any way. She approached another stall instead, offering a few pieces of munny in exchange for a skin filled with water, taking a few sips before finding a seat a few yards away from the chaos of the marketplace. Just a few minutes... then she would keep on exploring.

"Hey, noticed you're new around here." The serpent said introducing himself as he sat down besides the female. Taking in her features previously he had already made some deductions based on her clothing and interactions regarding the world. He wore his typical garb which kept him at his body's optimal temperature. It was clearly foreign, even more so than what the girl wore despite it's simplicity.

"All this sand, huh?" He continued, leaning forward and shaking a bunch of it off of his snow white hair. A habitual flick of the tongue and he would rise again and lean back in the seat. There was definitely some breathing room between the two as he did not want to impose himself onto the newcomer but instead observe her. She seemed to sport clothing that provided no innate protection, either a result of her homeland, fighting style or the weather of the world. It was most likely the latter but they could all easily contribute to the minute detail.

Deciding the observe a bit more he blinked and activated Alveus oculus perhaps taking too much information and then blinked once more causing his eyes to return to their original, ocher, color. His old habits did seem to be taking place as he was still as nosy as ever and self-involved. Even if this wasn't as misplaced as it was initially he still acknowledged the pattern reemerging. "It is pret-ty ridiculuous." He finished, looking towards the sky seemingly enjoying the heat on his neck as he uncovered it from his clothing.

"Oh!" She said, sliding over on the bench as the man sat down next to her, providing ample room for them both. At first, she was somewhat taken aback by his forwardness, but he seemed friendly enough. She offered a smile as he spoke, leaning back against the wall behind them as she listened.

"What gave me away? She asked, referencing his first comment and with a touch of humour entwined with her words. Pan was very self-aware, she knew she looked out of place just about everywhere she went, even back in Olympus! It was the strangest thing, feeling like a foreigner in your own world. Of course, that was before she even knew there was other worlds... maybe she belonged somewhere else, after all.

"Annoying, right? She said, talking about the sand. She was still in a foul mood from the events of the day, but did her best to play it off as mild disdain for her environment. She watched as he leant back as well, looking up to the sky, and a thought struck her.

"Are you from here? Or, do you know much about this place?" She asked, genuinely curious. He didn't really look like he belonged much more than she did, but she was still new to this whole world-travelling thing, anything was possible. But even if he wasn't a local, he inevitably knew more than she did and the scene with the young boy from earlier had her curious, and just a little concerned. She was naturally empathetic, and to see a child that young reprimanded for just trying to survive... she shuddered. Maybe she could get to the bottom of the problem with this man, this... what was his name?

"My name's Pan." She said, simply.

"The same thing that gave me away." He said as he tucked on his clothes. There was obviously his facial features, his habitual flick of the tongue that happened every ten to fifteen seconds and more but he wouldn't bother pointing it out if this somehow escaped her. She probably was more concerned with herself. Most people were more concerned with themselves than they were with others.

It was a sad truth emulated by this world. The boy only cared for his and his family's hunger and not for the wealth of the man who needed to support a family. The guard cared for his duty and keeping himself in a secure, financial, position so he could support his. Huh, maybe people weren't as self absorbed as he thought. The concept of family seemed to be a strong one but only if you looked at it that way. All these people could have just been acting selfishly. He mentally shrugged it off.

"I know much about many worlds." He said, implying that he was well versed in the universe, and even others. Albeit the latter was only implied if you had met the man. She was clearly a newcomer based on her mana pool or at least she was new to this type of exploration. Regardless, she held potential.

As Pan introduced herself he felt no harm in returning the favor. "Etzolix. Mouthful, I know." He never did have a catchy nickname. Pan. Pan. That had to be short for something. He would probably pry later if he felt it important. "So how long has it been since you left Olympus?" He questioned, curious of her journey so far.

Just Deserts (Etzolix) Empty Re: Just Deserts (Etzolix)

Post by Pan on April 16th 2013, 1:27 am

Etzolix. Interesting name, she thought, as she observed his reptile-like tongue flicking in and out of his mouth. She wondered where he was from, to have a name like that and a tongue like that. She had seen strange creatures in her exploring so far, but none with the air of... superiority? No, he didn't feel as though he thought himself better, perhaps just more powerful than she. He radiated dominance, she was confident that whoever he was, he was important.

"Nice to meet you!" She said, hoping that maybe her day was finally starting to turn around. If this man was really as strong as she thought, and as nice as he seemed, he might be of use in preventing future thefts... people thefts...

She sighed. He asked what she had done since leaving Olympus which was an entirely embarrassing subject. She hated admitting weakness, and that was exactly what she had showed in the face of her kidnappers.

"Well I ended up in Traverse Town, first of all. And then I was... uh... 'apprehended'." She said, leading into a quick sideward glance. "After the whole damsel-in-distress routine I was rescued and now I've just been wandering through the worlds... this is one of the first." She concluded, wondering what this 'Etzolix' would make of her travels thus far.

"What?! You got kidnapped?!" He said exclaiming out loud and causing even more people to ignore the pair. At first it might have come off that he was overreacting in a way that held negative connotation but as he finished it would be revealed that he had something in common with her. "Me too!" He said back and pondered a bit before continuing.

"Mine wasn't as recent as yours but it was trippy. Interdimensional travel, galactic Godfathers, being framed for crimes not committed. All that good stuff. Did you get kidnapped by the same people?" He questioned. Perhaps she was from and alternate version of her world and was important? Maybe Etz was in the alternate world and maybe that's why he was stronger. Huh, he never thought of that possibility. He'd have to check for reality check in Space Paranoids. Azmot would surely grant him access.

Then again it wasn't likely considering that everyone had the same relation and the chances of that happening were extremely slim, even if parallel universes worked in the same theoretical sense. He was unsure and would rather not boggle his mind with this.

Interdi-what? Galactic who? Pan's head hurt. But Etzolix had been kidnapped once before, too? Maybe it was more common than she thought... something to look forward to in her travels...

"Considering just about everything you just sounded like gibberish I'm gonna guess not," she replied to his question. She reflected for a second, who were her kidnappers?

"These ones were just... kidnappers I guess. There were two of them. Took me away to some dark old tower and tried to steal my memories of the whole thing but, obviously, that didn't work. There were other people coming after me,t too, but... I dunno." She concluded, honestly lost with what to say next. None of it made sense, especially not to her. What possible benefit could come from kidnapping her? She had no munny, no assets, no one rich that cared enough about her to pay for her safe return. It was all very confusing.

"I hope I can find them one day..." She said, partly to Etzolix and partly to herself. She surprised herself, actually, she wasn't usually a vengeful person. But something about the event, how out of the blue and unprovoked it was, sparked an anger within her.

Two kidnappers, a tower, and memory erasure. None of that seemed familiar. That was odd. How much did things change since Etzolix departed into Space Paranoids? She seemed to want some type of revenge or at least that's what he could assume by the way she ended the story with wanting to find them.

"Hey, no worries. The gibberish will make sense in due time. The worlds do that." He said, reassuring her and slightly derailing the conversation. He wasn't exactly sure whether or not he could help her if that was all that she could tell him about. It was a tricky situation.

"Did you catch any of their names?" He wondered, "And how did you escape?" He ended up asking since she seemed to be fine but had no mention of it. Perhaps she wouldn't want to talk about it anymore so he wouldn't pursue unless decided to.

"What's your opinions on the worlds so far...aside getting kidnapped." He never really asked how people felt about the worlds they traveled to and most of the time they were all too absorbed in themselves to care about the damage dealt to said worlds.

Just Deserts (Etzolix) Empty Re: Just Deserts (Etzolix)

Post by Pan on April 16th 2013, 2:20 am

"One of them kept calling himself Zozo... the other one Iru... Itru... I don't know. I think they were using fake names, anyway. When I was waking up the weaker one called the other one something starting with a 'K'... I can't remember. Maybe if I saw them," she said, in response to his question. She scratched the side of her head, the more she thought about it the more it all seemed pointless. She didn't even have their names, just a vague recollection of their appearances and whatever weapons they were using at the time. It seemed rather hopeless, in all honesty.

"A bunch of people came and helped me, I didn't catch many of their names before I ran outta there." She said, suddenly struck by a pang of guilt. She hadn't even helped most of them. ""I'd like to find them, too. Just to say thanks."

Then he asked her what she thought of the worlds, which led to another inward look and reflection. What did she think of the worlds? She wasn't in Traverse Town for long enough to build an opinion... but this one...

"It's bleak. There's so much hurting here, struggling. I sort of... feel them, you know?" She said, shocked at her own admission. She wasn't even sure of it before she said, but now that she had it made perfect sense. She did feel them, in a way. It was strange, but she felt as though she knew what they were going through, despite merely being a passive observer... weird.

"If those aren't fake then I've never heard if them. And that means there not much of a threat. You were just outnumbered." He reassured her, making a point that she could protect herself in the worlds and needed not to fear things such as that again. "It's always good to have a friend with you." He suggested. He wasn't implying himself but someone she could make allies and travel with.

"K?" The serpent said to himself recalling all the names that started with the letter K. There were few relevant nowadays and these were still shots in the dark but he would ask. "Kotor? Kasturi? Kenos?" He listed them wondering if any sounded familiar. It wasn't likely since none seemed to fit that demeanor but it might trigger something in her that would cause her to remember the name. These were all the K's that he knew of. Well, there was the former Realm of Darkness ruler who went by Kratos but he was long gone before Etzolix even joined the military.

"Maybe, Cool. It's a C but has the K sound?" He spoke aloud to himself again but quickly corrected himself. "No, he's definitely a hero...if that." The reptile looked to her for confirmation.

"Maybe..." She said, after his listed all those names started with the letter 'K'. And then one more that started with a 'C'.

"Cool? That's a name now?" She asked, perplexed. Where she had come from that just meant the opposite of warm or a 'cool' person. But a name? Weird. Things really were different out here.
"Enough about that, though." She said, expelling all thoughts of mysterious figures named 'Cool' from her mind, "I'm sure you're much more interesting than me. What do you know about this world?" She asked. She hoped she would be able to pick his brain about other worlds, too, find out which ones would be the best to visit next, but for now this place was interesting her with all it's class divide. The poor in the streets and the wealthy Sultan just down the road in his palace, that was no way to live.

"Yeah, kinda lame right?" He laughed out. Cool. Then again who was he to judge? His name was pretty odd. Recalling that her name, from what he assumed, was short for something he decided to pry, even just a bit since the opportunity came up."Although, your name is Pan. That's pretty weird. Kitchen appliances? C'mon." Ending this little bit of his he would let out a small sigh.

Closing his eyes and visualizing he would say, "The only notable, nonroyal, leader was the War Monger, Trickster. This place has always had an issue with poverty and corrupt politics and has a knack, like every world, for attracting heartless." He stopped and opened his eyes. Hopefully, that was a decent summary. "And sand." He concluded now feeling that job was adequately done he would see which part interested the girl the most. Etzolix felt that giving too much useless info would bore anyone who had to hear of it.

Post by Pan on April 16th 2013, 3:00 am

"It's not my full name!"She said, with a smile and a slight laugh, before fully comprehending what she had told him and quickly biting her tongue. She wasn't supposed to tell people her full name. That's what they told her all along, that her namesake was the cause of all her problems. She frowned, was that really true?

Before she lost herself in another tangental train of thought, Etzolix began explaining the world to her. Trickster? These people really did have weird names.

"Heartless?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. She was aware of the creatures from Olympus, but there they were only used for heroes to fight in tournaments. She had never really questioned it, that they, like the gladiators, were just there to fight. Did he mean to say that those little things were in other worlds as well?

"Hm, then--" He began but quickly cut himself off. She bit her tongue for good reason so best not push the envelope of information that could be gathered. "you've never seen met a heartless? They have quite a bit in olympus for sure. It's peculiar you haven't interacted with them." He covered up the cut off sentence by finishing it with a question.

Admittedly, he was always biased towards the creatures. The woman he loved was a heartless now as well and that even pushed it. Not to mention that he had a friend in the Realm of Darkness that help keep the rebels in check. It had been awhile since the last time he's visited so perhaps he should soon.

Maybe if he did he'd take her along to explain their nature. It'd be one of the few times this early on where she could go without being threatened. Her heart would attract them too much if she were in there alone or with a being whose darkness wouldn't overshadow her light.

"I've seen them in Olympus, just in the tournaments is all. You said they were an issue for the worlds, though?" She had gathered by this point that they were a bigger issue, an entity that she didn't understand. There was a lot she didn't understand, unfortunately, ad even though it made her feel kind of annoying, asking questions was the only way she could learn.

"I don't really know much about anything," she admitted, with a slight smile. There was no point pretending anything else, she had stumbled across this body of information and intended to use it as much as she could.

As she clarified her lack of information he was glad he was one of the few people who could speak of heartless and not victimize them to the rude assumptions people always jumped to.

"I will not lie. I am horrendously biased when it comes to heartless. I used to rule their domain temporarily." He explained. "They are beings of darkness that consume the hearts of others and then turn those hearts into heartless." He looked at her now. "What many people don't understand is that they are no different than other beings who consume flesh aside giving the heart the opportunity to return to life. Not all beings of darkness are evil." He was unsure why he felt the need to clarify this but it was important.

"We are all victims, we are all criminals." Perhaps he was getting a bit too somber. "But what matters is that you shouldn't go to where they reside alone. It's never a smart thing to do. Although, they have this marvelous beach." He said making his mood chipper once again. As the Sun started to rise even more the heat would seem to intense. "Want a piece?" he asked, offering her some of his clothing. She probably wouldn't understand what he meant by the offer.

"You... ruled them?" She asked, somewhat incredulously. "They always seemed so... uh, I don't know... instinctual? I can't imagine them ever listening to someone. Whenever they were released into the Coliseum they just fought and fought until they won or died." She continued, recalling the only real experience she had with the creatures.

Her expression dropped, then. They consume people's hearts? She truthfully didn't understand where he was coming from, but she wouldn't argue. There was no use, perhaps she didn't fully understand but from his description she wasn't sure she really wanted to.

He then offered her a piece of his clothing, which she looked at quizzically.

"Uh, thanks." She said, holding the clothing in her hand, quite unsure what to do with it. Was this some strange custom she was unaware of? Maybe it meant he liked her or something? She sat there, kind of awkwardly, holding the strip of fabric in her hand with an uneasy smile on her face.

"And that's because I've allowed them. I felt no need to oppress their nature. And now? They're ruled by themselves." The serpent explained nonchalantly.

"You're supposed to put it on like a headband." He began, "It's magically enchanted so the fabric will adjust to your ideal temperature. Since it's only a headband you'll only feel it up there but it's still something to stop the sweat."

"So, what you're telling me is your redundant?" She said, with a grin. It was in her nature to be playful, and the kindness this man was showing her was enough to turn her day around for now at least. She nodded then, taking the piece of fabric and tying it around her head, somewhat surprised by the effect. Weird, maybe she should get something like this before she ever considered coming back to this place.

"So, you've told me about Agrabah. You've told me about Heartless. What else is there to know? She said, before taking a quick glance around. In the distance, looking out of the town she could see a sandstorm forming. Huh, weird. That hadn't been there when she was out in the desert, maybe something was going on. Otherwise, the market seemed to be ending for the day. People were packing up their wares and the people selling fruit were desperately screaming out discounted prices before the fruit went sour.

The reptile assumed this was why he didn't talk much before. He just felt no one would be interested in what he had to say and for the most part that was always true.

"There are a lot of worlds you have access to. And there are a lot of friendly and dangerous people. I suggest not being to trusting of anyone you haven't already met." This was how he was playing it and it was why he was only really reattaching his old connections of people who knew him while he was still 14 and there were only two people around who fit that category.

"There's probably more people that care than you think," she said, taking a guess. It was usually true though, Pan had felt so alone for so long when she was locked away in that room, but when she reemerged people cared. They wanted to know where she had been and, even though she couldn't really be honest with them, it felt nice to be wanted. She thought that a guy as interesting and helpful as him must've had a few friends, why wouldn't he?

"What are the other worlds like? So far I haven't had much luck..." She said, recalling being kidnapped in the first world she found and discovering poverty and discontent in the second. When she thought about it Olympus wasn't exactly the friendliest of worlds, everyone was completely focused on fighting after all. Huh, she hadn't even really considered how messed up that was until now. That obsession with winning, with completely obliterating the competition and for what? Your name on a board. She shuddered, the fact that she had never thought of that before was just as terrifying as the discovery itself.

"Uh, they're all different and have their own quirks." He said, thinking about it. "There's one based on the holiday Halloween. There's another where you turn part fish to breathe underwater." It never hit him how strange these worlds actually were to someone who was sheltered in a single one all their lives.

Looking about and looking at a sandstorm that was forming he clapped his hands together and said, "Great!" He stood up and motioned for her to follow him into the area.

Fish-people? That was kind of interesting. She always liked Poseidon.

"Oh, okay! She said as he stood, following him towards the sandstorm she had noticed earlier. She wasn't exactly sure why they were going, but it might be interesting regardless. As they exited the town, she saw it and froze in her tracks.

"Is that a...? She cut herself off. Heartless was the word she was looking for but the mark on it's head answered her question. Did he know that was out here? Had he come to show her one? Or... feed her to it or something? Regardless, she knew now the source of the sandstorm. The mechanical looking creatures was blasting wind and sand from it's body, leading to the girl pulling the headband Etzolix had given her down over her mouth and nose, to leave her airways relatively clear of dust.

"What are we doing? She half-yelled, above the sound of the encroaching storm.

Looking at the heartless like a proud father he said, "We're going to send it to the Realm of Darkness, do you have any weapons on you?" He said, turning to her. The heartless was getting fiesty but it still respected the former leader to some degree. However, the light in the female was tempting and eventually the primal instinct of hunger conquers fear.

Pan gulped. "We're going to... fight it? She asked, quickly pulling her sword from it's sheath at her side and her shield from her back. She was okay with her weapons but there was always room for improvement, and this particular enemy was huge and daunting. Still, she had Etzolix here and considering he used to be the ruler of these things she assumed he knew a thing or two about how to defeat them, and was strong enough to do so.

She swung the sword in front of her, familiarising herself with it's weight once more, before holding it in front of her somewhat defensively. The Heartless seemed to be looking at her, as if it were sizing up it's next meal. She waited for Etzolix to say something, give her some sort of direction, and then she would attack or do whatever he suggested.
