Important Worries (Probably better if the girls answer) Empty Important Worries (Probably better if the girls answer)

Any funny boy comments will be deleted as soon as i freaking see them. No jokes about girls, no jokes about PMS, and certainly no cancer or std related ones will be tolerated. This is a serious subject and I need guidance.

I told a lot of you a while ago that I was having issues in the lady regions. I wasn't sure what was going on, I'm in pain once and even twice a month, and its horrible enough that I go on emotional rampages after spending 36 hours curled up in a ball under the duvet on my bed in the fetal position. This crap lead me to go and see a gynegologist, who, though is very nice, is very flippant in giving me an answer.

On Monday I had an appointment with him. After my mother and I had walked out of the room from a five minute conversation of "your complications will be fine if you stop your meds for three days and then pick them up again. I'll see you in another three months. How's January 12th sound?", she said she needed to ask something, and I sat on a bench next to the elevator, moping about my lack of an answer from the man. I sat in this near-tears position for about 10 minutes, before my mom came back around the corner with a pamphlet in her hand about the Gardasil vaccine. She had asked about it, I guess, and said that we were having problems enough, and that she would rather me get it and be safe.

You have to understand first, that I have never been okay with getting vaccines. Unless one of my sisters has had it, whoever has the needle can go fuck themselves, because they arent sticking me with the damn thing, and I will break both their hand and the syringe if they touch me. You see, my aunt on my father's side was born a perfectly healthy baby. When she got a whooping cough vaccine, she had a severe reaction and is now mentally disabled. Since then, my parents have been severely reluctant to giving us vaccines unless they know it is safe. I've had a polio vaccine, as well as a tetnus one, which i renewed before leaving for the Outback.

Because my parents are divorced, and I live with my mom, I need to call my dad now and again because he's the one with the drug plan, which I am happy to stay firmly on. After all, you wouldn't believe how much my pills cost sometimes. I let him know what the vaccine was and asked him to check with the company to see if we were covered for it. It's $300-$400 without the insurance and is taken in three shots over a 6 month period.

Dad called me back today, and left a message on the answering machine saying he was pretty sure that we were covered if I decided to get it, and that he was going to look into it a little farther. I left for my dentist appointment after getting the message.

Again, dentists are covered under dad's name, so i needed to call him anyways and tell him that there would be some paperwork he would need to do. I also warned him that I might have to get my wisdom teeth surgically removed before I go to university, but thats another story. So I called him.

Lovingly, Dad told me that he wasnt so sure he wanted me to get the vaccine. He said there were serious things associated with the vaccine, but wouldnt tell me exactly what. He just told me what to search for in google and what to click on. After hanging up with him, the sting of his concern still on me, I told my mother what he had said. She accidentally said that he could go fuck himself in front of me, and I ended up in a laughing fit. Mom doesnt normally say that sort of thing; probably only the third time i've heard her drop the f-bomb in my life.

So herein lies my dilemma. I looked at what Dad told me to search for, with serious regrets. After all, im a girl with an overactive imagination, which is doing me terrible harm right now. Dad was right in saying that there are serious risks to this vaccine; girls have had serious diseases appear and some have even died. In one thing I saw, a girl took three steps after having it, and then fell over and started foaming at the mouth in a seizure. Welcome to Scary-Central.

I need opinions. Nothing has been decided yet, but if anyone has had the HPV-Vaccine known as Gardasil, they need to let me know. If any friends at all have had it, I need to know. This thing is seriously worrying me to the point of tears, and I need to hear from people that I know. Mom says yes, Dad says no. Mom is thinking of getting my sister to get it too. I'm freaked out. Someone speak up and say something.

If you don't want to end up hurt and the thought is making you cry, then don't take the vaccine. If the vaccine has the possibility of making things worse in your life, or harming you more than it is benefiting you, then, why take the chance? You won't gain as much as you would lose.

I go for don't take it unless you know it's completely safe for your body without any extreme side effects (drowsiness after the vaccine and things like that obviously don't count...)

There is a vaccine that is going to come out soon that I am not going to get because the idea of what it could do to me if it went wrong would kill me in likely less than a day, if you don't trust the vaccine don't take it. I'd take a vaccine I didn't trust if I didn't have a choice in the matter for survival.

Well, the only thing is, the Gardasil vaccine is to prevent cervical cancer among other things caused by HPV. So right now, I'm trying to compare which is gonna end up doing me worse and is more likely to happen: me getting ridiculously sick or dying from getting a vaccine thats supposed to maybe help save my life, or completely ignoring the vaccine and taking my chances with HPV.

I know it seems scary, and that complications can arise from it, but I would Highly suggest getting this vaccine.

The first thing you need ot think about is that with any vaccine in the country Health Canada has to first approve it as being safe on the population. If there was a large amount of risk with this vaccine then it would not even be available to the public. Granted that sometimes complications arise, these are extremely rare. The reason to us that it seems like such a high number of people suffer these complications is that those are the only stories that get out. No one cares about the 10,000 girls who got it without consequence, the only story that is worth telling is the one girl who had a bad reaction.

Cervical cancer, along with other complications that can accompany HPV are very serious.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have reviewed all the safety information available to them. Based on data available to them as of May 2009, the CDC and FDA determined that GARDASIL continues to be safe and effective, and its benefits continue to outweigh its risks. In August 2009, the CDC reaffirmed its continued recommendation for vaccination with GARDASIL.

As for girls with the vaccine. Both my ex’s Ally and Sierra have had it, and I was actually dating Ally when she got it I’m 90% sure my sister has had it. I know that both Rhonda and Tiffany (Scott’s friends) have had it, as has his sister Tori.

Personally I think its a good idea.

.....OH GOD, my parents want me to take the same damn thing....
Look, there's not much of a chance that you're going to walk three steps and then start foaming at the mouth.

Hey, if you like vaginal warts, profuse bleeding, and incredible sores in your mouth, as well as dying slowly and incredibly painfully from HPV, you be my guest. I myself would rather face possible and rather unlikely death-by-stupid-people-with-needles. "Associated Murder" looks better on your gravestone than "Died from HPV like a stupid bitch, lol."

Like I said, not much chance. If you're a paranoid person, fine, don't take it. Me, I would rather not go with "death by stupid disease that I could have prevented if I'd just taken that stupid vaccine." .-. of course.....it MIGHT be helpful to check the person you're gonna sleep with for obvious signs....like those sores on his dangly parts that are pouring out puss and other icky things. Yeah. Might be a hint.

You know Exactly why im editing this. -Roxas

Post by Jet Enduro on October 22nd 2009, 3:19 am

As i said before most Vaccines are not fully safe theres no perfect cure-all that doesnt have side effects...

Hell I got the flu shot one year and i was 3 times sicker than just getting the flu....so shit like that can happen...

but also I gotta shot for my asthma last year actually and my asthma hasnt been kicking in well until this month but thats because its been over a year since ive had any real issues...

Most the time people try to over weigh the side effects with the actual problem

Like all those crappy one pill meds that prevent shit...i mean hell You wont have a headache but you will be bleeding outta your eyes and you might have necrotizing skin and sulfuric burps and on occasion the most explosive diarrhea you will ever had even after eating 60 pounds of chipotle and going to mexico and drinking outta a mexican hole in the wall restaurant that gets its water from a puddle next to the closest river.

its like that....

but what you have to really look at is the ratio to it...i mean people can say IT could possibly maybe rain money tomorrow its a trillion to .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 odds that itll happen....but its there

i mean yes 32 girls died....but how many of them taken it
and what was there current health status then
also where they on something else at the time
i mean meds conflict hell you dont drink booze and down sleeping pills
or mix nitrates with viagra

So really if you wanna be safe thats fine but go with the safer bet ...if you do take it and something goes wrong were you have even worse pains...then you can get money outta it....voluntarily or not medical professionals show know if somethings wrong with a med or not hell
the CDC should know
you can drive your boot in the crotch and pull out every dirty trick in the book and get as much money as you want outta it from physical and emotional pains

Write pros and cons of both, then, when you're done look at the list and think what's the smart thing to do. Then after that just throw away the list and act by instinct for the situation and what you think is best for you.

Important Worries (Probably better if the girls answer) Empty Re: Important Worries (Probably better if the girls answer)

Post by MrsGrizzley on October 22nd 2009, 8:04 am

There's one question that isn't being asked. As near as I can tell.

Yes, there are serious concerns about *any* vaccine. However, if I might ask a pertinent question, and you don't have to answer on the board because it's your business and no one else's. I'm going to be blunt, though, because I'm an adult and because I need to be in order not to be misunderstood. And because this is a serious issue.

Are you sexually active? Have you ever been sexually active?

Gardasil is designed to protect a woman from these diseases, but it only works if she hasn't been exposed yet. The virus that is at the core of this issue is carried by males, and does not affect them. So yeah, guys, this is all YOUR fault.

If you are not sexually active, and have no intention to be sexually active, and the man you marry someday has never been sexually active (don't laugh, it can happen, Hubbybear and I were the first for each other), then you have limited need for the vaccine because you will not be exposed. However, it is still something to consider, though you have time to think about it.

If you are sexually active, or have ever been sexually active, then the vaccine is pretty well useless to you because you may have already been exposed to the virus and if you have then it's a waste of time. The reason it's being marketed to the parents of pre-teens and young teens is the general assumption that by the time a girl is sixteen she's going to be sexually active whether her parents know it or not.

Not saying that the assumption is right, because it is wrong in some cases (like mine), but it's an assumption because it seems to be true more often than not.

The time to get vaccinated is six months to a year *before* sexual activity begins.

The only concern involves possible involuntary exposure, which has been known to happen.

If you aren't comfortable with the vaccine, and you are worried about it, then by all means, don't take it. Your mother is being protective because as much as she doesn't want to think of her little girl doing stuff like that, she's a mother and she has to take raging teenage hormones into effect when she considers things.

I hope I'm helping at all.

Mrs. Grizzley (not a mother, but over thirty in real life, so take the life experience for what it's worth)

Then the choice is completely yours.

The reason the vaccine is being so heavily pushed is because it's a VACCINE to protect against a form of cancer that only women get because of contact with men. Go figure.

You have legitimate concerns about the vaccine. You have the ability to choose whether or not to take the risk, one way or the other. It is your body, your choice.

At least you can rest easy knowing that your parents are willing to make this your choice. I have no doubt that had something like this been available when I was your age, I wouldn't have been given the choice. It would have been decided for me, one way or the other, and I would have been told to choose the way they wanted me to choose.

There are consequences on either side. You can only look at both sides and take the risks you are willing to take.

Mrs. Grizzley

With all due respect Grizzly and pinky... you're both wrong on some of your points.

@Pinky: The hard part of HPV is that most of the time you can't tell if someone has it. the warts and pus and everything are things that are CAUSED by the disease, but a man can have the disease and look completely normal.

@Grizzly HPV isn't only a risk for women. Yes men can have it, be born with it and be completly unaffeted, however it also can affect us. Especially if we happen to engage in homosexual activities. HPV can cause cervical cancer yes. However it can also cause colon cancer in homosexual men, so its not only something men do to women.

Also I know Kairi isn't sexually active but for anyone else reading this. If you ARE sxually active Gardasil is STILL a good idea and STILL effective

But, if you're already sexually active, you may still benefit from GARDASIL. That's because even if you have been exposed to HPV, it's unlikely that you have been exposed to all 4 types of the virus covered by GARDASIL.

Getting vaccinated now could help guard you against HPV Types 6, 11, 16, and 18 if you are exposed to them in the future.

honestly I say that you should check the cases of the side effects and whether or not they were really serious. The government will most likely have tested it and made sure it wasn't to risky. Then get it if there wasn't a high risk of death of something else negative.

well, one of the other prolems i see with it is that it only protects against 4 types of HPV. There are, in reality, 18.

Mom says that if im gonna do it, we're going to do it in the spring so i shouldnt be worrying about it at this point. Whatever, I'm still gonna worry about it because my concerns are quite valid.

The Government in my province has something set up called Teleheath Ontario, where you can call a registered nurse for free and get advice. I'm going to try again with that, but I called the other night and they told me that my waiting list was going to take 2 hours before i could talk to someone. can we say "ew 2 hour wait"?

Well, in all seriousness, did the site give you any indication to the ratio of vaccine's administered to poor reactions? It is been documented that when something is good we will tell an average of 3 people, while when something bad happens we tell 10. While I don't want to discount that the seriousness of the cases where things went wrong, you may still need to look at the actual figures to see you chances of a complication.

Caruka I would prefer it if you would keep your mouth shut at this point, your actions represent disrespect to the person pressed with a heavy decision, and a lack of empathy for that person. By not reading the whole topic you show that you decide to remain ignorant to keep your own opinion unscathed rather than reach out for that person, an example of that lack of empathy. In the few posts you have made since you have gotten back you ave decided to skate on thin ice you aren't that far from breaking the surface.

Unless you have something productive to say remain silent.

@ Caruka: Actually, I do take heavy offence to your lack of empathy, it just so happens that Yima said something before I did. The Gardasil vaccine is to prevent against HPV, which im pretty sure Ive said a few times throughout the posts. And as I've explained in my situation, the question does not lie in whether or not I question the vaccine's effectiveness, but moreover in the fact that I am worried for my own health. This comes from considering what happend to my aunt who is mentally disabled (lemme repeat that) MENTALLY DISABLED from a vaccine she has had. I've only had a few vaccines in my life, and my school nearly suspended me in elementary school because i screamed at the first person who waved a needle at me. my parents told me I was well within the rights to say no, and my mother came in saying to the principal "look, her sisters never got the shot, we thought we made that clear 4 years ago. why did you ignore the note i sent asking for her to not get the shot". i nearly got suspended.

we're talking about HPV or Human Paploma Virus. I'm worried about the effects on my body, because as many people have known on this site for a long time, my abilities when it comes to reproductive organs are very low. If i ever get the lucky chance to have a child, that child will be a miracle baby, because i was told earlier this week that I have a harder chance than most women to have kids because of underlying problems.

By getting this shot, I'm risking my way of life as I know it, so as you can see, I'm freaked out beyond all belief. If given the choice ever of taking something that you thought might affect first, your mental state, second, your health as a whole from getting a disease you didnt think you were suceptible to/had awoken, or third, to DIE, would you be taking this lightly? because im getting opinions from everyone.

@ Pinky: Thanks hon, but I don't think I'm allowed to wait that long. I'll probably cart the Roxas plushie in with me when I go for a support system if I end up taking the shots.

@ Yima: Thanks, darling. Much, much thanks.

No reason...no reason...really...you leave have no fucking clue whats going on come back and act like you know all the shit we are talking about...why dont you before you shove both your feet hands and fucking own tail bone in your mouth and just accept the fact that people aren't always gonna give you fuckign sunshine and happiness when you leave for half a year and act like no one noticed

and also thats about the 5th time someone has said HPV and RISK OF DEATH AND OR EXTREME DISABILITIES...in this topic alone.
