 | Subject: Creation Basics - All about Weapons and Armor 24th April 2009, 2:18 pm | |
| Welcome to another Creation Basics topic. This time, we'll be talking about Weapons and Armor. First, we shall start with weapons, and again I shall point out another case of stupidity, this time with Volke, and the Neko Chan of Epic Stupidity, better known as Mohon. Example Number 1| Volke wrote: | Name: Atonement
Type of Weapon: Scythe
Primary/Secondary: New Primary
Elemental Alignment:N/A
Ability/Function: The whole blade the Scythe can be detached from the pole and be worn on the left/right forearm.
Close/long range: Mid-Long Range
Description: The Pole isn't as flimsy looking like the one in the picture, it's more like a straight metal pole. The whole thing weighs around 40~55 Kg. When swung and held on the middle of the pole, it covers a radius of 1.5 meters. The pole is made out of light weight iron while the blade is made out of steel . Its blade can slice a bar of iron that is 10cm thick on all dimensions. And the color of the pole is still red wherein the very blade is still white. The size of the blade is half a meter long. |
The scythe, in itself, is okay. Only point of stupidity you have to note is the weight, the length of the weapon. Such a heavy weapon? Carried by what is a speed type character who is used to using two tiny daggers? Yes, he wants to use it for his own training, but that's unrealistic, even if he IS sweating a lot while using it. Next time, if you want to create a weapon, make it suitable for your character, please. This next example however, is the main focus, the big cheese of stupidity when it comes to making your weapons.
Example Number 2
| Mohon wrote: | Name: Ancient Sword
Type of Weapon: Giant Sword
Primary/Secondary: Secondary
Elemental Alignment: No element
Ability/Function: This weapon has many qualities. One of them is that, thanks to its size, it can be used as a giant shield that can cover the whole body of the user from any incoming attacks from part of an enemy or foe, but the user of the sword recieved 77% of the damage. There is the fact that it can be summoned to the users hand, but cannot be turned back from that place... Another thing is that it cannot be wielded by anyone: Only the chosen one of this sword can wield it and use all its power. If someone that is not the chosen one of the sword ever tries to take it, he will discover that the sword is extremely heavy, and not even the strongest creature of the world would be able to take it. But if the chosen one tries to take it, he will discover that for him the sword is free to use. It can be moved around like it didn't weight nothing, just like a normal blade. Last thing, it increases a bit the magical power of the user... but just a bit, like 5%.
Close/long range: Close Range
Description: Like I don't have a picture, I will describe it: The sword first starts with a medium sized handle covered by many bandages, bandages that by the look give the impression that they have been there for a long time. Then, between the handle and the blade, there is a green crystal which purpose its unknown. At both sides of the crystal there is also metal covered too by bandages, and they end in some kind of circle. The blade of the weapon is really big, of about half a meter of width, and one meter and a half of length, or maybe more (Never was good at this thing...) The color of the blade is a dark purple, almost black, and the color of the handle is of the same dark purple, but not as dark as the blade. The last thing is that in the blade of the weapon, there is written something in strange letters, in a dead language that not even the user can understand. |
What's wrong with this? It's a GIANT shield, with no weight to it. Also, when it slams down on you, apparently you can't lift it up, so doesn't that mean that you're gonna get crushed by the blade? Jesus, there's so many things wrong with this. Secondly, being able to swing a weightless, 1.5 x 1meter(He stated 1 meter in a topic, so ICly it's apparently 1 meter wide) sword around that's extremely heavy on you means you're gonna get owned by that piece of junk. Again, general stupidity. Also, he argues it's his ultimate weapon, so oh hey, I'ma make my Ultimate Weapon, a giant sword 500 meters tall with an uber thin blade that does not snap no matter what, is weightless to me, and whenever it's blade touches something it explodes, cause hey, it's MAH ULTIMATE WEAPON!
Onto Weapon Making Alright. You've finished the two examples. Now, you're probably asking what would be an epic weapon that you have, that isn't way too god moddy and/or unrealistic? Well, here's a few tips. Again, let's go with steps. Then, I'll focus on abilities, what you shouldn't really do with weapons and stuff.
Step 1 : Decide on name, then elements, then what type of weapon you want. Remember, you should make the weapon suitable for your character.
Step 2: Onto effects! Most people, don't have a clue what is a weapon effect, a weapon enchantment and what crosses over the second hurdle to reach ACTUAL SPELLS. Alright. Weapon effects, aren't exactly needed, and are somewhat minimal and passive. Good weapon effects would be effects that affect, as MINORLY AS POSSIBLE, spell effects, like damage, and stuff. Also, you can just include what it can do, and put in parenthesis after the effect that it's an enchantment. Weapon Enchantments, are pretty much enchantments that you pay a cost for, but helps increase combat effectiveness either for the whole topic or for an amount of posts. Things like setting swords on fire, increasing the weapon's reach. Status effects should be placed under weapon effects, but don't overdo it. Remember, it's better to have lower chances of opponents getting status effects from a weapon. Also, if you're strong enough, you can go for weapons that will return to you, can be summoned and/or cannot be stolen(or needs a spell to be stolen).
Step 3: Now, weapon description and history. This part is important, your weapon has to weigh the right weight, be a good enough length(Longer weapons mean harder to master, to use and heavy, by the way). History, although seems like some boring shit, could help with your character development. Not to mention you should make it realistic. And there's nothing like a well decorated weapon that gleams with gracefulness you know?
Step 4: Again, get vets, friends, admins or mods to look over it if you want. They don't bite!
Armor One important thing to note about armor is they either provide elemental resistance, power up spells, or are heavy and give rather good defense. One thing is, metal armor actually slows down your speed, thus making things difficult for you. Cloth armor gives hardly any defense, but you're fast, and it probably gives you good elemental resistance as well. Okay. One thing you should NEVER EVER do, is have armor that instantly negates spells, protects everything and stuff. That's god moddy, and makes it unfair for others trying to fight against you. Here's the steps, as usual.
Step 1 : Name..Description of the armor..protection all in one. Decide on the type of armor and whether it slows you down or not as well. Be realisitc.
Step 2 : Decide on an, effect, like say increases spells potency.
Step 3 : Description, and history. Again, it's pretty basic.
Step 4 : Ask vets, mods/admins for opinions, and post it and stuff._________________ Max MP - 160 Governor of Traverse Town |
